PHREE-Way Introduction and Portal Overview

by Randall Kemp last modified 2007-09-05 01:52

A brief overview of PHREE-Way and an overview of the portal for the 28-29 August, 2007, consultation.

What is PHREE-Way?
PHREE-Way (Partners for Humanitarian and Risk Education Expansion) is a global action-learning network of organizations working together to expand education and strengthen capacity for disaster risk reduction and humanitarian action towards sustainable development and human security. PHREE-Way creates linkages, fosters research, and facilitates learning opportunities around disaster risk reduction efforts.

Who is involved with PHREE-Way?
The founding and initial members include international non-governmental organizations, research and training support organizations, and universities. All members adhere to human security, sustainable development, and humanitarian imperatives, as well as globally-recognized ethics and standards. See the organogram for particular members.

What is the PHREE-Way portal?
The mandate of PHREE-Way is to sustainably increase access to world-class quality actionable risk reduction and humanitarian action education, training, tools, information, and knowledge. With this mandate in mind, PHREE-Way is building an online portal as one way to communicate and share valuable information and resources on sustainable risk reduction.

How can the PHREE-Way portal support my disaster risk reduction activities?
The flexibility of the portal at the present moment provides you the opportunity to mold the portal to your organizational needs. For example, you might post a report of a current project; or you might add a link to your organization; or you might post a page describing a planned project, opening up a call for participants; or you might add a project report with lessons learned others would benefit from; or you might start an online discussion; or you might take responsibility for a region (Africa) or area (training) within the portal and facilitate its activities.

How can I contribute to the PHREE-Way portal?
Once you have created a no-cost account, follow the instructions to add a page, a link, a document, etc.

Who do I contact for assistance or with further questions?
See http://www.phree-way.org/ for more information. Feel free to use the portal contact form.
