ProVention African Forums 2006-2007
To influence policy dialogue and advance the risk reduction agenda in Africa, the ProVention Consortium hosted three regional forums and its annual Forum in Africa between November 2006 and February 2007. Organised in partnership with the IFRC in Johannesburg, ActionAid in Nairobi and ENDA Tiers-Monde in Dakar, regional forums gathered CBOs, INGOs, local government, research & training institutions and the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement. Participants critically reflected on the scope of DRR in Africa, discussed effective and replicable methods, approaches and practices that can be developed and ‘owned’ by affected or at-risk communities. In 2007, ActionAid and ENDA will publish a set of case studies from their regions that were presented at these forums. The ProVention annual Forum was held in Dar es Salaam on 13-15 February 2007. Organised in partnership with the Tanzanian Red Cross and Ardhi University, it gathered over 100 participants and addressed the theme “Making Disaster Risk Work: Building safer communities in Africa and worldwide”.
